Judy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a partner of a firm in Lincoln Park, but I was commuting to work every day from Gurnee. I finally decided to take a chance and hang my own shingle. I opened the doors to my Gurnee office on January 1, 2012. I was a solo practitioner at the time and didn’t even have an assistant. Since then, I have hired several paralegals and an associate attorney. I have expanded into a larger office and my practice has grown exponentially.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s always scary to step out into unknown territory with no safety net. Hiring new people can also be a challenge, but I have been blessed with each member of my staff. They are competent, hardworking, dedicated team players who genuinely care about each of our clients. The journey has not always been easy, but I’m thankful to have a great team to journey with.
